Let's take a look at how some people make money offline. A college friend of mine sent me this news thru e-mail. I was really taken aback upon reading the story. The e-mail warns the people when travelling to China, and advises to be careful specifically when buying hairbands or, as I call them, hairties down the road since they'll never know what they are made from. But, as we all know, there have been so many exportations of China-made products worldwide, so we'll never know as well if those hairties have already reached the shops in our country, or that they might have already been being sold anywhere in the world. We'll never know. So, just to be sure, I did the same method as cutting the mid portion of one of the same kind of products which I bought for me and my daughter since the packaging has the made in China label. I'm just glad that the elastic material is not made of a used condom. Whew!
As what is said in the news, these used condom-made hairties eventhough going through a recycling process "could still contain bacteria and viruses". Just imagine the types of diseases the hairties could infect the people who might "hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while waving their hair into plaits or buns" as what a local dermatologist said according to the news (see the excerpt below). Now, this fact is very alarming for me since, like most girls or women who use hairties, I have this habit of holding them with my lips while I comb and gather my hair into a pony tail.
As regards matters concerning not good news involving other countries, I would like to make myself clear that I'm not against any nationality or country. The purpose of this post is simply to share the information I've acquired, although I don't claim that all these information or news are that reliable. So, it's up to you to judge its credibility.

The above photo shows the samples of hairties in which the inside elastic material is made from recycled condoms.
Now, here are the photos from the e-mail showing what the inside elastic material of the hairties is made of :

The e-mail also includes a news report from Beijing (AFP) that says used condoms are being recycled into hairties or rubber bands. Below is a screenshot of the news (please take note that only word spacings and paragraph indention were modified in the following excerpt) :
